We send a randomly-generated acronym of 3 to 7 letters. You reply with a funny, timely or creative phrase for that acronym. People then vote for their favorite. You score by writing popular answers.
In order to play, follow @play140tag on Twitter. A new game starts every ten minutes. Join us!
The game is played in three parts: the acronym, your answer, and then the vote.
First, we tweet an acronym and a category.
Then, you come up with a phrase that works with that acronym.
After a few minutes, you'll receive a tweet telling you it is time to vote for your favorite answers. Follow the link to vote. The voting page will show you three answers - just click the best of the three to cast a vote.
After a few minutes minutes, you'll receive a tweet telling you it is time for the final vote. This time, over Twitter, you vote for your favorite.
When you submit an answer, you earn 10 points. During the vote, your score goes up by three points when people vote for it, and down by one when people vote for another player instead. You usually score between 5 and 20 points for your answer, based on how people vote. With many people playing, the scores can go much, much higher.
| When... | You Score |
| You submit a valid answer | usually 5 to 20 points |
| Your answer wins the vote | 25 points |
| Your answer finishes second in the vote | 10 points |
| Your answer ties the vote with one other player | 15 points each |
| Your answer ties the vote with two other players | 10 points each |
Duplicate status errors. You can't submit the same status update to twitter twice in a row. If you answer a question "1b" and then answer the first question of the next game "1b", Twitter will reject the tweet. Some clients give a nice warning. Others just silently fail. In any case, you can just put several spaces after your answer and it'll go through.
There is a language filter. Assume our language filter is set somewhere just below “TV-14.”
